And now Germany

Swiss was quite right - the Radio 4 series about German philosophers is just grrreat. There's only a bit of it left on the player now but still...a little good is better than a huge pile of nothing. I'm also enjoying the music used in the series...it's this:

So try to grab a bit of it if you can. Apparently the presenter Stephen Plaice is a poet too (as well as a writer for film, TV and opera). He does sound a bit that way...much sadness in the voice. Ausgezeichnet!

Hey, that's just what I'm interested in right now - thanks:)
I tend to go straight to Open Book and not look anywhere else (one day I'll have more than one hours free time per day!)

I would have missed it too without Swiss to keep me posted, Rachel. I've been listening to one a morning. So enjoyable!

I wanted a word for 'excellent' TFE and this was the one I remembered and liked best. I like the guy's voice as he narrates, the music, the content...everything.

Hats Off to (Roy) Harper! (I know that's a very obscure reference, but never thought I'd get the chance to use it, so irresistible)(sorry).

German filosofers, eh? Always entertaining. :)

Great song, another great singer with the surname of Harper.

I can't believe I've missed a series on German philosophers, damn! I once bought myself a 'Teach yourself German' book so I could read Nietzsche in his own words, needless to say I failed miserably.

i liked the first three more than the last two but enjoyed all of them and the roy harper was a fine trip down memory lane

Hi all....Gleaner you made me think 'which other singers called Harper?'! I looked up and found Ben Harper (newish, never consciously heard him) and a Nick Harper (son of Roy - never heard him either that I know of) and my house guest came up with a Heather Harper (operatic singer). So I guess there are a few.

See what you mean, Swiss...just listened to part 4 and it didn't seem as well composed as the preceding ones somehow. Still interesting though. Even more interesting as I was listening on headphones with our Girl's 'Horrid Henry' playing in the background! Double lives and all that.
